Mid-week Rambles

Hey everyone, sorry for no posts Friday, Sunday and Monday. I've had a pretty suckish couple of weeks leaving me feeling pretty down in the dumps. I've been feeling really sluggish and alone and I'm not entirely sure why. I promise by Monday I will be back posting regularly I just needed a break, to relax and think I suppose.

Onto a few brighter things they have made me smile the last week or so.

The new John Lewis Christmas advert. I absolutely adore it, it's so sweet and although I have loved every single advert up until now it could be my fave. It makes me so excited for christmas, which is most definitely my favourite time of the year as I love buying presents for people (more than receiving them... is that weird?) and seeing their reaction so when I see this advert and the Coca-Cola advert I know it's christmas time!!

So for now I'm snuggling up with some hot chocolate and a few cheeky biscuits to make me feel less sorry for myself.

Mid-Week Rambles

In keeping with my posting more often I thought I would do a "mid-week post" where I just talk about well anything that comes to my mind and that has been happening this week.

So this week I read a post about an absolutely fantastic idea, #BritshBloggerSelection on Little Vintage Camera
The concept is every week Ellie will send an email to those involve with a theme and if you want to post about it you can and if not you skip it. Simple!

So if any of you want to get involved contact her with your blog URL, blog name and your first and last name and then you are added to the group, also simple!

The link is here so if you are evenly remotely interested or have any questions the link to the blog about it is here.

This is a really great opportunity to see others posting in the group, make new friends and perhaps write out of your comfort zone.
I'm really excited to be a part of it and can't wait for you to read them and hopefully for me to read yours.
I'm number 137 look for me haha!

Hope you all enjoy this new adventure, my new posts and my mid-week rambles (although this one did have more of a purpose than the rest will).

Til Friday x

Glutes On Fire

For your glutes to have the ultimate workout keep reading because this post will have your legs and bum burning.

So as always start off with a dynamic warm up.

1)
Start with 10 squats then 10 squat jumps. Repeat sequence 5 times.

2)
Next lie down with legs bent and go up onto your shoulders (i.e. in a bridge position) and squeeze your gluteus (i.e. your bum) 100% (as hard as you can) then release slightly and snap back to 100% (pelvic tilts). Do this for 1 minute.

3)
Then repeat step 2 with one leg straight in the air and with the other foot (which is on the ground) come onto your tippy-toes. Do for one minute then repeat on the other leg.

4)
Stand up and do 20 one legged squats (leg to the side not in front).
Then 20 one legged squats and lift the leg during the downward phase of the squat.
Finally do 20 squats and during the downward phase of the squat bring the leg across (in front) then back out.
Repeat sequence on the other leg.

*Be sure to leave the leg out, don't let it touch the floor (until you switch legs obviously), it makes the workout more intense thus giving you quicker and better results

5)
Finally repeat step 1 but repeat the sequence 10 times instead of 5.

Combine this with other toning exercises, some cardio or just do it by itself.

Finish with a static cool down and rest those legs!! ;)

Sunday Soup

So if you haven't noticed yet I post on Mondays (health and fitness) and Fridays (beauty). As two blogs a week isn't a lot this will be my third blog each week. I will most likely post soup or Salad recipes for you to try every Sunday.

One promise I make to you, all the soups will be healthy and hopefully you'll find them as scrummy as I do!!
Now on with the blog...

Minestrone Soup

Ingredients:

  • 2 celery sticks
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 leak
  • 1/2 savoy cabbage
  • 2 large tablespoons (tbs) tomato puree
  • Salt and pepper
  • Mixed herbs (fresh and dried)
  • 2 litres vegetable stock
  • 1 tbs olive oil

Instructions:
  1. Chop up all the vegetables
  2. Put olive oil in a pan
  3. Put the onion, garlic, carrot and celery in the pan over a high heat and stir making sure the olive oil coats it.                                                                                                                                           Once it begins sizzling turn down the heat and then leave to sweat - translation: put the lid on and leave - for 10-20 mins (dependent upon how much time you have and how soft you like your veg)
  4. Season with salt and pepper
  5. Add herbs
  6. Add stock, bring to the boil and then bring down to a simmer.                                                         Leave to cook for 15 mins
  7. Add tomato puree, leaks and cabbage
  8. Stir, boil then bring down to a simmer again
  9. Leave to cook for 20-30 mins
  10. Serve with a side a rye bread to keep your calorie intake low ;)

*If you wanted to add pasta, to keep this soup healthy it would have to be brown whole wheat pasta, you would put it in after 15 mins of step 9 and leave for 5-10 mins.

Prep Time: 10 mins approx.
Cooking Time: 60 mins approx.
Serves: 6 approx.

Slim Tip:
You can make soups out of almost anything - stray away from potatoes and white pasta/rice (carbs) to keep it clean.
